One of my favorite things about BJJ is not only the people that you get to meet but also the places you get to see! I've got the opportunity to train in Atlanta at Alliance, Las Vegas with Sergio Penha at his academy and Simpson Go at Cobra Kai. Recently I trained at Caio Terra's and Dave Camarillo's in San Jose, CA and Triton under Piet Wilhelm in Oklahoma. Also while in CO I had the pleasure to train at some of the Easton gyms as well. The one thing that everyone had in common was the welcoming experience they all provided. I believe that this is something common in the BJJ community, which is refreshing to see. For these visits, I won't write anything in depth, just because they have been past visits, in the future, I will go more in detail with each respective trip, so please, continue to follow my blog :)

Pans 2013
March 21, 2013
I finally got to compete at the Pan Ams. It was by far one of the most exciting weeks I've experienced thus far in my BJJ Journey. After arriving and meeting with my Dark Horse team, we got settled in our hotel and were getting ready for the tournament. The day before I competed, we got the OK from Professor Jubera to head over to Xande's to train before we fought. What a great time!
After stressing for weeks about my weight, I came in at 140lbs, 1.5 under what I needed! What a relief!! The competition itself didn't go as well as I would have liked, winning my first match via triangle and the second via DQ. The third was a hard fought match, but I didn't come up for my sweep that I had set up and it ended in me getting ankle locked; ending my run just short of the podium.
On a lighter note, it was great to see my teammates get some medals! Especially my "twin" Elizabeth Tran, fighting as hard as she could, winning her first two matches via arm bar in the Female Brown Belt, Light feather category.

Seeing Liz compete was definitely a treat. I know how hard she has worked to get to where she is today. She inspires me not only to work harder, but to also better my jiu jitsu. If you ever are in the Colorado area, I definitely recommend stopping by Dark Horse BJJ in Longmont, where Liz, among other great jiu jitsu practitioners train!
